Wooden crucifix depicting the Christ of the Alps. The body of Jesus is portrayed on a pastoral cross with a very rough surface, with the characteristic curved horizontal cross arm. This work of art is delicately hand-painted with oil paints, and embellished with details gilded with a thin gold-like brass leaf. The body of Jesus (about 110 cm / 43 ½ in tall) is actually detailed, and the face was once created to express the suffering felt by the Saviour. The cross (114 cm / 43 ¾ in wide x 234 cm / 92″ tall) is without doubt one of the most important symbols of Christianity. This Christ of the Alps crucifix is wisely designed, carved, and finished by hand by skilled artisans at Deur, a well-known circle of relatives-run sculpture workshop founded in 1966 and specialising in the creation of artistic wooden handicrafts, embellished with a variety of quality finishes. In the splendid Val Gardena – an Italian area devoted to masterful woodcarving – creativity, passion, and attention to detail blend together to create this cross and other fancy wooden sculptures portraying a plethora of subjects, to be had in different sizes and finishes.
